about

My name is Lokman Tsui. I am a doctoral candidate at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. I am also a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard. My dissertation tries to answer the question of how the world comes to know itself by examining the impact of citizen journalism on global news production. My research interests center more generally around new media, global communication, and journalism. I divide my time between Boston, Philadelphia, Amsterdam and Hong Kong.
I am co-editor of The Hyperlinked Society: Questioning Connections in the Digital Age (2008) together with Dr. Turow. My articles also appeared in Global Dialogue, China Information and in the newsletter for the International Institute for Asian Studies. I was guest editor of China Information for a theme issue on the socio-political impact of the Internet in China.
I earned my MA degree at the University of Leiden in Sinology (Chinese Studies) on the topic of internet regulation and control in China. I participated in an exchange program at the Graduate School of Journalism of the National Taiwan University (NTU), worked for the Center for Law in the Information Society at the University of Leiden.
I also contribute to and blog at Shouting Loudly (together with Annenberg colleagues Bill Herman and Jason Tocci).
