Wikipedia got me through my education, as wrong as that may be. It is rather humbling what they have accomplished and in many ways changed mindsets that the public is useless and incapable of producing quality work without stringent direction. In a way its a intellectual middle finger to the 'intellectuals' of our time, many of whom will be analyzed by readers of Wikipedia - not their own works. As long as wiki is in the ball-park of what is correct, it will outlive the competition.

It's a serious question as to the "quality" of English versus German Wikipedia. The German one fits people's ideas of quality more, but I've asked German speakers about this who actually use the English one precisely because it's got more stuff in it.
